A body of sculptural work made during a material research residency in Zhujiajiao, Shanghai and research trips to Jingdezhen and Hangzhou. The series “Topology” considers the technological aspects of craft. Weaving involves complex mathematics, similar to knot theory and topology, the study of the space of irregular or twisted forms. Lord Kelvin incorrectly theorized that atoms were shaped like knots, and since then topology has been used to study molecular structures and map the orbits of particles in quantum physics. Within this context, craft might be seen as a once commonplace, kinesthetic way of modeling the world around us.
